The CCX is the revamped version of the CCR to meet international regulations

Birth of a supercar - in order to meet international regulations the CCR pictured below had to be completely revamped, including adjustments to the bumper. Still it features the exact same 806bhp V8 of the record breaking CCR and is pretty much the same car. The CCR however is the car that made the record books when it achieved a top speed of 241mph in early 2005 before the Veyron exceeded this later that year.

Founded in 1993, Sweedish born supercar manufacturer, Koenigsegg have been a relatively unknown business until recently. The original Koenigsegg is the brainchild of companies founder Christian Von Koenigsegg who has struggled for 10 years to produce perhaps the world’s fastest and most desirable supercar.

The CC8S, first launched in 2000 was a Ferrari Enzo crushing 240mph beast. Lightweight and with an all new V8, 4.7 litres in capacity. Like the design, the power plant in the Koenigsegg made it somewhat unique in the highly exclusive supercar market. Rather then traditional V12 which had been the characteristics of Ferrari, Lamborghini and many more for a while now, the Swedes opted for a highly tuned V8. Thanks to supercharging the original engine found in the CC8S boasted around 655bhp.

Weighing it at around 1200kg just a few more than the old CC8S, the CCR concept was brought to the publics attention in 2004. It was deemed to be a record breaker and it was achieving top speed of 241mph, just 1mph more than previous king of supercars, McLaren F1. But if Koenigsegg wanted the whole world to benefit from this hyper performance 806bhp machine they’d have to make some changes.

To target in particular the American market, the CCX was built and is set to go into production this year. Basically, a CCR but with various adjustments to meet international regulations. Still the same highly tuned V8 in a light weight carbon fibre shell, the CCX aims to reach 60mph in 3.2 seconds. But more startling is the top speed as rather interestingly Koenigsegg have specified it’s V max as around 245mph rather than the ‘mere’ 241 achieved by the outgoing CCR. Perhaps even more interestingly they’ve tucked a discreet little + behind that 245mph. Without speculating too much, me thinks they have a certain Bugatti on their mind. Another world record attempt coming up - lets hope so.
